An Evening with Jodie Patterson
At a time of intense and dehumanizing attacks on transgender people, transgender children, and their families, we must listen to voices that challenge us to think deeply about how every individual can be a force for compassion, connection, and protection.
Jodie Patterson is one of those voices. As the mother of a trans child, she is an in-demand thought leader on parenting, identity, and community care that can help us to navigate this critical moment.
On November 20, Patterson will invite us to reconsider what it means to mother—not as self-sacrifice, but as a creative act of building community. What if “mothering” were something anyone could do? Drawing from her work with queer families, she explores the idea of Genderless Mothering -- reimagining how the work of mothers can inspire more inclusive and humane ways of shaping our homes, neighborhoods, and institutions.
About the speaker
Jodie Patterson is the mother of five and the author of The Bold World and Born Ready. She currently serves as Chair of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ advocacy organization.
